Huawei P20 Lite Review

Published in Reviews on Feb 11, 2019

My parents got me a Huawei P20 Lite for Christmas which is faster and much bigger than my previous phone, my Xperia Z3 Compact.

The main reason I like my new phone is because of the storage, having 64GB of internal storage is mind-blowing compared to my tiny Z3 Compact which had only 16GB.

Before I had to uninstall apps just to receive text messages, that's how tight it got sometimes. Now I feel like I have space for too many apps. They can't even fit onto my home-screen. It's mental.

One of the main selling points of the P20 Lite for consumers is the price. You can buy it from Amazon for £220 or from EE at £21 a month on contract. It's a no brainer so many people are walking around with these phones in their pockets. It's becoming a fashion statement (OK, maybe not quite).

The fingerprint sensor at the back of the phone works very well. When I place my finger on the back sensor, the screen turns on and unlocks almost immediately. I like where they've place the fingerprint sensor, it's just naturally where your finger sits on the back of the phone. Very good idea, Huawei!

Following the trend of other phones, like the iPhones, Huawei have added a notch to the top of the screen. However, you can disable the notch if you'd prefer not be trendy.

From my personal use of the phone, I find the screen and the sound to be just fine for everyday use. I mean it's not going to be top of the range but it's very good considering the selling price.

The phone itself comes with a layer of Huawei sauce on top of Android but that's what most phone manufacturers does nowadays.

The P20 Lite uses the USB-C connector for charging, which very annoying, especially if you have literally hundreds of normal USB connectors hanging around the place. But I guess that's the future. (Apple are rumoured of ditching their proprietary ports for the next iPhone and use USB-C instead. Yes, more cables Apple fans!)

Overall, I find the phone awesome for everyday tasks, like reading articles and checking Facebook. I love the storage and I love the fingerprint sensor. If you're looking for a phone and you don't have hundreds to splash out on the latest Galaxy or iPhone (I mean $1000 for a phone?) then the Huawei P20 Lite might just be the perfect phone for you.
